Episode 4

Sara Hurtarte on raising young leaders in the shadow of a volcano

Published on: 9th March, 2021

This interview with Sara Hurtarte, Co-Executive Director of SERES, a youth leadership development organisation in Guatemala, displays the power of leadership in a holistic light. Making connections you don’t necessarily see at first. I had never considered the struggle for the youth to find their voice the backdrop of the 36-year civil war where leaders disappeared - or how those same youth have used the disaster of a volcanic eruption to rebuild their community to be more resilient and sustainable. This interview is full of such new angles and I’m immensely excited to share it with you.

This won’t be the last story we share from Guatemala - but it’s the perfect place to start your understanding of the nation.
